RULES
(read before applying)

  • Everyone must check The NYC Newsgirls Union Writers' Resource to make sure your character's first, last and nickname is not already in use. This includes names under the Retired section. People don't like it when someone else takes their name, so by looking there we can avoid any confrontations with other the members of the union.

  • The union is currently in the year 1904, your characters must speak, act and dress as they would have in that time period. That means no tang tops, jeans, riding cars, or reading literature that wouldn't have been available back then.

  • Profiles will be considered based on originality and detail. Try to make your characters as original as you can, read over the other profiles on the site so you don't copy another character's personality and so forth. We don't need two of the same character. And don't fill out the application using once word sentences either. Put a lot of detail into it.

  • Please don't write anything above an R rating. This is a standard Union rule. No house or business currently accepts NC-17. Even with an R rating if you plan to write about sex, rape, drugs, violence, suicide, metal disorders and everything else, please do so in a tasteful manner.

  • When filling out your profile please put a lot of time an effort into it. Check for spelling errors, capitalization and punctuation (use a spell checker) and please use asterisks (*) around actions.
  • Don't capitalize what you put in the asterisks and don't use the name of your character in them either. Example:
Do not write: *Ransom looks up and laughs* *He looks up and laughs*
Do write: *looks up and laughs*
See? Good. *smiles* Also, don't put more then one sentence in the asterisk. Want another example?
Do not write: *He looks up and smiles a little. He rests his head down in his hands* Do write: *looks up and smiles a little* *rests his head down in his hands*

  • If you're going to use dialect in your profiles don't go overboard on the accents. Make sure it's readable. Don't write you'se, shoah, muddah and so forth. It makes it harder to read. Stick with yer, kinda, mothah, ones you can easily know what they are.

  • This is a writing circle and everyone is expected to write for their character(s). There are no story deadlines but I would like everyone to write as much as they can.

  • Bay Ridge is part of the New York City Newsgirls' Union, if you are not familiar with the rules or how things work in this union please visit that page or you can even email me personally at Fade1284@yahoo.com and I'll try my best to answer any questions you have.

  • I don't run this on a first come, first serve basis, so make sure your profile is impressive. I have the right to refuse your profile for any reason I deem fit.
