Quake McDowell
renthead@nodaybuttoday.com

*sighs and looks over the papers* All right, first things first, what's your real name? First and last.:

*looks disgusted by the thought* McDowell…Esther McDowell *absently glances behind her* Orphanages run outta names quick.

*scribbles it down on the paper* Next.. um, do you have a nickname? And if you do, how'd you get it?:

Yeah, Quake *smiles almost devilishly* When I was sellin’ over in Manhattan I got a *pauses a moment* reputation for soakin’ anyone who came near my sellin’ spot. So all the younga ones would quake with fear when I came ‘round. *seems finished for the moment but hastily adds* Not dat I do that much anymore…

*nods a bit* When's your birthday and how old are you and all?:

*shrugs* You tell me…I think it’s sometime in da winter, but that’s all I knows. The folks at the orphanage don’t keep good records, but they reckon I’m about 17. *shrugs again, obviously uncomfortable now* It’s not dat important, is it?

*smirks a little* Next is looks so.. tell me what you look like, all right? *rolls his eyes* Humor me...:

*gives him a quizzical look, but sighs and goes ahead anyway* Well, I’m pretty tall. Not six feet or anything but I ain’t short. *nervously fingers a bit of her hair* My hair’s sort of a mix of red n’ brown…mostly brown, I guess. And my eyes are brown too, you see. *opens one eye widely and point to it* And I’m not exactly skinny…I guess you could say I’m sorta muscular? *tucks her hair back under her hat and tugs slightly on the suspenders holding up her brown trousers* Dat good enough?

Hmm.. *writes down some of that then looks back up* What kind of person are you? What's your personality like and all that?:

Well I *pauses to think before saying something stupid* I, uh, respect authority. I guess I’m not da most friendly of sorts, but few are ‘round here. Not the best neighborhood, ya know? *hides the fact that she can be downright mean and violent when she gets angry, or worse, upset* I just been through a lot, and well, so has everyone else.

*raises an eyebrow then grins* If you say so. *teasing, of course* Okay, so do you have any friends around here?:

*shakes head slowly* No, not really. I’m new ‘round here.

*nods some and taps the pen on the paper* And, uh, you got anyone special in your life right now? *grins* You know what I mean.:

*looks slightly puzzled* Oh..ya mean…oh, no. Not me. Ain’t really the type. *nods as if trying to convince herself*

So, you got any family? *scratches his head with the end of the pen* Mother, father.. sisters or brothers? Anything like that?:

Well o’ course I got a mother and father, they’re just no longer livin’. *ponders the latter part of the question* Ya know, I wouldn’t know if I did have any brothers or sisters. But no, I guess not. *idly buttons the top button of her offwhite shirt*

*sighs, looking at the next question* Now you don't gotta say, but it'd be nice if you at least gave me something to write down... how'd you come to live at this fine place? *small smile*:

*glances down at her black boots* Well, I uh… *pauses and looks back up* Things weren’t goin’ so great where I was livin’ before. Weren’t no more good sellin’ spots and too many guys who would soak ya for one. *nods as if reaffirming her reply* Yeah, it just wasn’t good.

*nods and scans over the application* I think that's it... anything else you wanna add?:

*quickly shakes her head looking pleased that the interview is over* Nope, not unless you got some more questions.
