The Mods

The Mods were probably the most fashion conscious of the 60s youth cults. Fashion was part of their identity as opposed to their rivals, the Rockers, who usually just wore leathers. The Mods introduced colourful stylish clothes for men. In the mid 60s they wore brightly coloured shirts and ties, turtlenecks, boxy blazers, narrow pants, mohair suits and green 'parkas'

One Mod ritual was the bank holiday motorbike ride down to the South Coast of England where groups of youths rode around on Vespa scooters and wore parka jackets.

The Mods were originally an exclusive group of fashion-conscious men, but by 1963 the term was used more generally and could be applied to most youth and fashions of the period.
