Net2Phone.com can make phone-to-phone calls overseas for just pennies a minute. This is the way it works: When you make the call through a special access number, the conversation is converted to "voice over IP" (essentially an Internet transmission) until it reaches a computer near a phone exchange in the country you are calling. From there it converts back to a standard analog phone call for the person on the other side. By circumventing the other country's international phone exchange (think of it as a way of "slipping under the fence"), Net2Phone.com is able to save you a bundle every calling minute. The sound quality is actually quite good, though there is a bit of a delay as you might expect, similar to a call being transmitted via satellite.

Net2Phone has two basic calling card plans, and the one you choose will depend upon your needs and "style". For example, a call to Australia from the US using the standard Net2Phone Direct Calling Card will cost about 7.9 cents / minute with no connect charge. However, they have another plan called "PennyTalk" (which can only be found at getpennytalk.com) where that same call costs only 4 cents / minute but with a $.49 charge per connection. Since my staff and I tend to be a bit long winded and typically spend more than 10 minutes on a call, this is the plan we use.

Net2Phone is a leading provider of voice and enhanced Internet communications services to individuals and businesses. Its suite of services provides low-cost, high quality phone calls using personal computers, traditional telephones, Internet devices, and calling cards.

Founded in 1995, Net2Phone is recognized as the first company to bridge the Internet with the public switched telephone network. Net2Phone currently routes millions of minutes every day over the Internet, saving consumers and businesses up to 90% off traditional long distance rates. Using its advanced IP (Internet Protocol) network and technologies, Net2Phone routes voice, fax, and other value-added applications worldwide. Net2Phone's IP network extends to over 50 countries and allows users to place calls to any telephone or Internet-enabled PC in the world.

In 1996, Net2Phone launched the first service allowing users anywhere in the world to place phone calls from their PCs to any telephone at low rates. In 1997, Net2Phone introduced its calling card service, Net2Phone Direct, allowing users to place low-cost calls over the Internet with a traditional phone.

Today, Net2Phone is expanding its offerings to new market segments, including ISPs, Internet Cafés, Calling Centers, and Enterprises. Also, Net2Phone now makes it possible for distributors throughout the world to capitalize on the growth of IP telephony by allowing them to earn money from hardware sales, as well as generate revenue every time a customer purchases calling time.

With millions of customers worldwide, Net2Phone has established itself as a leader in low-cost calling. Traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol NTOP, Net2Phone's strategic partners and investors include Liberty Media, AT&T, and IDT.
