In every single one of us is an actor. Obviously it is not always the genre of erotica that we aspire to.
This was discovered by trainers who actually use role-play to analyse case studies, to help make us "better performers" for our employers. If any of you have been involved in one of these training role-plays recently, then you will understand what I mean.
If you can write erotica, and you feel confident about your work then SRP is worth trying. It is a team effort, as you must consider the other "players".
The finished "product" is totally shared unless you have agreed to work with a SRP "owner" to follow their lines and plots. In that case, I suggest you think about some rewards if the owner intends to make profit from it.
Seriously, there are rewards of achievement to be gained just by sharing with others.
Another thing is the diversity of styles between players. The way one person writes compared to another and how one style can rub off onto another player, is amazing. Thus each one helps to improve the other as the play continues in it's course.
Who is in charge?
Nobody should be in overall control of the role-play, although you should have a "team-leader", usually the one who owns the role-play and/or runs the plot or theme.
The word control however can have different meanings. If the plot or theme is BDSM based then there is the usual subs and doms which are part of the whole performance.
Before starting a role-play of any kind it is worth discussing it's direction first between all players. Get to know what your own role demands of you and where you are expected to go in all of its course roll-out. For it to be done correctly and have a certain reader appeal, then it must be done slowly and in time. One must follow a certain cue. Players often follow each other in sequence in order to keep the play consistent and easy to follow for the reader.
Open Plays.
You may find yourself involved in "open plays" where the plot is based on an ongoing theme and players are invited to interact with each other in various developing scenarios as the play rolls out. These are very complex as far as consistency is concerened, but very easy for players to come and go (forgive the pun) as they please. The story can also get complex in these type of plays, because direction can continually change and they often end abruptly. Totally avante-garde.
So there we have it. If you have never tried it, then you must have a go! Don't worry about your style of writing either as that adds some character to the part being played. And we all learn lots of things from SRP regarding people and erotic encounters.
