HARLEY QUINN
Before she went mad her name was Harleen Quinzel.
She worked as an intern at Arkham Asylum and tried to write a book based on her efforts there that would make her famous. In the book she would record the tale of how she cured one of Arkham's most famous inmates.
And that's where we bring in Mistah J.
Harleen chose to try and help the Joker back to sanity. They had a good deal of great times talking and shortly became friends (partly because of the Joker's seduction and partly because Harley was already a bit mentally unstable). Unfortunately, Mistah J escaped one night and got beaten up by Batman, who belligerently brought him back to the bustling Arkham halls. Watching her poor Joker bleed like that was unbearable. She let out a piercing scream as he was led down the hallway.
Insanity broke into her brain like a brick into a window. Later that night she attempted to break him out of his cell so he could "recuperate properly". Laughing for hours and hours, "Puddin'" allowed her to take him to a decent hideout and the two began scheming ever since.
