Maximizing Your Momentum - How To Be Incredibly Effective

There is an old Cuban proverb that says, “When the sun rises,
it rises for everyone.” What a great saying! (And it probably
sound seven better in Spanish!) One thing is sure, everyone
the world over starts the day with the same 24 hours, 1440
minutes, 86,400 seconds. The difference in what any person
achieves, owns, or accomplishes in life, both personally and
financially, will in almost every case boil down to one simple
thing: how that person has chosen to spend his or her time.

Professional golfer Tiger Woods, for example, devoted his
entire life [or at least from the age of three or four] to the pursuit
of becoming the best golfer in the world. To make this dream a
reality, there must have been many times as he grew up when
he was faced with the conflicting decisions of going skiing in
the California mountains with his friends or practicing. Going to
the beach to hang out, or playing golf. Staying out late at a
party with his peers, or getting home early to rest up for a
tournament the following day. It goes without saying that he
gave up many opportunities for fun, adventure and pleasure in
favor of using the majority of his time in pursuit of his goal. (And
now, of course, he can afford to buy a ski resort or a private
beach. Or perhaps throw the biggest party the world has ever
seen.)

To do this in our teens [or even early twenties] is one thing. But
for most of us life is a little more complicated these days. We
have bills to pay, responsibilities, families, and commitments.
Despite this, unfortunately, the universal rules of life don't
change to accommodate us. Where you focus your time and
effort is where you will gain success. If you focus the majority of
your time and effort on the accomplishment of your goals you
cannot help but move toward them. If you don't, you won't,
since we all have our own commitments and since we can't
change the number of hours in the day.

Some of us try to play games with time, like setting our clocks
ten minutes ahead so we don't show up late. And then when
we're on time, we suddenly have got ten extra minutes to play
with. But that's not time management. That's time manipulation.
The best way to gain more time is not to steal it from our friends
and family, but to use the time we've committed to reaching our
goals to far greater effect!
