Chapter Thirty-eight

“Where are we headed?” Aaron asked.

“This real nice restaurant down the street a bit,” Nick smiled.

“If you take me to McDonalds I’ll get you.”

“Oh dang!” A.J. laughed.

“Here we are. Dancing, dining and a real good time.”

Everyone piled out and headed inside. When Aaron stepped in the lights went on and everyone yelled ‘Surprise!’ Across the room were his parents and he walked right over to them. “I love you.” He gave his mother a hug. “Dad, I’m sorry about all that crap.”

“Not a problem son. Happy Birthday.”

“Where are the girls?”

“Hey bro!” Angel yelled.

“Happy Birthday!” they both said in unison as they hugged.

“Hey Aaron, happy birthday,” B.J. walked over with some of her friends.

“Hey B.J.” he gave her a hug.

“Hi,” one of her friends extended a hand, “I’m Kat.”

“Hi Kat.”

“Happy birthday you two.”

“Aaron, is there a reason you haven’t given me a hug yet?”

“Hey Leslie,” he gave her a hug.

Everyone began to dance as music filled the room. Then after about a half an hour the boys decided to sing. They started taking requests, singing everything acapella from their seats. After about ten songs Nick pulled Aaron and Angel over to sing ‘Happy Birthday’.

When the party was over Aaron said good-bye to his family and went back to his hotel room not knowing what he was going to do about Jess. When he stepped in the door the phone was ringing. “Hello?”

“Aaron why did you do that?” Jess was crying.

“I’m sorry we were in a hurry.”

“Don’t lie to me Aaron.”

“I’m not lying to you Jess. God! Why are you all up on my case?”

“What are you talking about? I’m not doing anything wrong! You’re the one who hung up on me and you’re the one who’s being all pissy so don’t start with me!”

“Don’t start with me,” Aaron mocked her.

“What’s your problem?”

“Hmm… let’s think. Your boyfriend is a jerk!”

“You don’t even know him!”

“Neither do you!”

“I know him better than you!”

“Yeah right.” He began mocking her again, “Oh he’s sexy. I like his hair; I think I’ll go out with him. It doesn’t even matter that he’s a BASTARD!”

“I don’t have to put up with this.”

“Fine! Cause I don’t want to talk to you anyway!”

Jess hung up and Aaron fell to the floor. “Oh god! What have I done?” he sobbed.
