Chapter Forty-nine

"Hey Aaron what's up?" Elise smiled as Aaron walked in the door.

Aaron shook his head and kept walking toward his room. "Hey Aaron!" A.J. called.

"What's wrong?" the couple asked each other in unison.

"Aaron can we come in?" Elise lightly tapped on the door.

"If you want to."

When they stepped in Aaron was sitting on his bed with a small suitcase. "What are you doing?"

"I'm going to ask if I can stay at Jess'. Caden thinks it may help."

"Aaron, you don't look too good." A.J. commented.

"I know I don't. But, Jess needs me." Aaron continued to pack with no distinct expression on his face.

"Aaron, go with us to dinner. Just do something, please." Elise begged putting her hand on his shoulder.

After thinking for a moment Aaron turned to her and smiled slightly, "Okay, just let me call mom and ask if it's okay for me to stay."

Aaron left the room and Elise turned to her husband, "I'm so worried about him baby."

"I know, I am too." A.J. engulfed her in a hug and gently kissed her forehead.

When Aaron walked back in the room he was holding McKenzie in his arms, "Sorry but I just couldn't resist… and she was fussy anyway."

"That's fine Aaron… but now you have to change her." A.J. smiled.

"Oh, it can't be that bad. I've changed Grace millions of times."

"Whatever you say." A.J. winked at Elise.

After a few minutes Elise went to check on Aaron. "You okay in here?"

"Yeah." Aaron was proudly holding a clean and very happy McKenzie.

"You're pretty good." Elise jokingly inspected his job.

"I know I am."

"So are you going to stay with them for awhile?"

"If it's okay with you. I promise," Aaron held up his one hand.

"Aaron, that's girl scouts." Elise coughed trying not to laugh.

"Oops," Aaron fixed his mistake and continued, "I promise to still come by and if you nedd a babysitter I'm ALWAYS willing to help."

"Aaron, you're so sweet. Of course you can go."

"Hey Aaron! Phone!" A.J. called from the kitchen.

"I'll be back in a second." Aaron carefully handed McKenzie to Elise and kissed the baby's forehead.

"Are you okay Aaron? I mean you just… left." Caden's worried voice came over the phone.

"I'm sorry about that man. I just needed to get away from it all."

"A.J. said you were going to dinner with them. Are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm better than I was. But I'm gonna make sure that bastard pays for what he did to us."

"Okay then Aaron. I'll talk to you later."

"Bye."
