Introduction

Gillian, the hygenist of Tristram, sent a letter to the Sanctuary Dental Association (SDA) informing them that a new dentist is needed in Tristram. The letter revealed that the previous dentist was slain during an unfortunate incident involving an Arch-Bishop and a Butcher.

The SDA sends you to Tristram to be the new town dentist. You find that many of the town's residents live in the Cathedral, and their teeth are in horrible condition! Being a dedicated dentist, you prepare yourself for dealing with these unruly patients.

Rules

Dentists must distribute 1 point to Vitality and Magic per level up. The point in vitality shows that with more skill, you gain a stronger stomach for your work. The point in magic shows that you get smarter as you work. Also, no level up points other than these may be spent elsewhere until Dexterity is maxed. (+Stat shrine and Elixir use to increase these stats is fine, however.)

Elixirs found/bought during a game may not be used until the end of the game. You can't work while you're intoxicated.

If a dentist dies to his own Fire Wall, Flame Wave, or by taking off +HP equipment/putting on -HP equipment; he has committed suicide. This dentist loses his license (as he won't need it anymore) and is no longer a dentist. He may be reclassed as something else, but his days as a dentist are over.

Items

Armor
The dentist wears only scrubs, which are Robes and Leather Armors (Normal, Hard, & Studded).
Full Plate Mail (lead x-ray suit) may be worn only if infravision is active.

Helms
Dentists must wear a helm that covers his mouth, so only Full Helms are allowed.

Jewelry
In the interest of the patient, a dentist will only use jewelry if he is also using scrubs. This is because the dentist is able to tuck any amulet inside his scrubs so that it doesn't fall off. For rings, scrubs provide gloves which keep rings from slipping off.

Shields
Dentists sometimes requires the use of a shield to knock his patients unconcious. However, he only uses Bucklers for this purpose because a larger shield could knock out teeth. This shield may be used as a weapon but never with a weapon.

Weapons
Dentists use scrapers to clean plaque off of teeth. These are Daggers, Scimitars, Sabers, and, in severe cases, Falchions.

Dentists also make use of drills, which are any scraper with a Swiftness or Speed enchantment; NOT Haste, as it is disallowed. Appearing to be too fast makes patients nervous, and you can't have any malpratice lawsuits on your hands!

Dentists sometimes use bows as drills. A bow may only be used if it considered to be a drill (meaning it has Swiftness enchantment). The only bow weapons that may be used this way are Short Bows, Short Battle Bows, and Short War Bows.

Dentists have one final item for dental work: Tooth Extractors (Small Axe, Axe, Large Axe).

Enchantments
Dentists have some enchantments that they simply love, and others that they hate. Preferred enchantments are those that the dentist will use if available. Banned enchantments may never be used. Enchantments not mentioned are neutral and the dentist may use them.

Preferred
Dentists are very fond of +To Hit% (better tools), Quality (better tools), Dexterity/.../Perfection (better skills), Leeches (modern medieval pain reliever), Flame/Fire/Burning/Flaming (cauterization tools), Swiftness/Speed (drill abilities), lightning (newfangled electrical tools), of the Bear (anesthesia). If such tools are available, they'll surely use them.

A dentist's job isn't always a clean one. (Waitaminute, is it ever a clean one?) Sometimes the dentist must do a procedure that will be quite bloody, so the dentist is allowed to use of Blood and of Gore enchantments.

Banned by the SDA
Dentists will never use +Damage%, +TH%/+DMG%, of Bashing, -Dexterity, -To Hit%, Haste, or +Damage Done¹; this is the sign of a clumsy dentist. In Hellfire, Devastation and Peril are also disallowed. Dentists must be careful, not reckless! You don't want a malpratice lawsuit on your hands, do you?

Dentists must be able to see what they're doing, so no -Light Radius enchantments are allowed.

¹: of Gore and of Quality are allowed from this series, but others are not.

Uniques
Uniques are allowed if the base type is allowed, and if the unique possesses no enchantment qualities that are banned by the SDA. These are listed below.

Also listed below are extra unique items that, though they are not typical dentist items, the SDA has allowed the dentist to use.

Banned by the SDA
The Rift Bow, Ring of Regha, Giant's Knuckle (Hellfire), Split Skull Shield, Black Razor, the Defender, Executioner's Blade, Gryphon's Claw

Extras Allowed by the SDA
Overlord's Helm, Thundercall, Storm Spire, Immolator, Falcon's Talon², Inferno, Lightsaber, Shadowhawk³, Shirotachi (Hellfire)*

²: It has haste, which would normally be banned, but it also provides the Dentist with more skill; it's also a good quality tool (+TH%). Thus, no workmanship is lost.
³: This is for working on impacted wisdom teeth. They're waaay in the back (thus -Light) and it's not a clean job digging them out (of Blood).
*: It's a powertool (Lit dmg) and the Haste helps represent that.

Shrines

All shrines/pools/etc. are fine, but if you use one that subtracts from Dexterity you must pay 50% of all of your gold to the shrine. (Malpratice fine.)

Spells

Fire Bolt, Fire Wall, Flame Wave, Guardian, Lightning, Blood Star, Bone Spirit, Phasing, Teleport, Telekinesis, Healing, Heal Other, Resurrect, Stone Curse, Infravision (X-Ray), Identify, Mana Shield.

Fire spells may not be used on an enemy unless it has previously been harmed by physical damage. (They must be bleeding before they may be cauterized.)

Combine this with Dr.Disaster's Fairy variant and you'll have a Tooth Fairy! :o]
