Restricted Characters

Introduction

This is for random restrictions to add to a character if you feel that perhaps it could use more restrictions. These are restrictions that provide a challenge, but really no background or sense of "self" as a normal variant usually does. For example, a Hamster is a small, furry warrior. On the other hand, what is an "Attributal Character" other than a restricted character?

1) Late Bloomer - by LemmingofGlory
Class: Any

When you level up, all your level up points must go into the statistic that maxes the lowest. When you max a statistic, start the second lowest maximum.

If you want it even tougher, don't use Elixirs or shrines that raise your statistics.

2) T-Totaller - by Milespur Hour
Class: Warrior or Rogue most likely

You have sworn never to imbibe any liquids other than water
. Drinking potions, elixirs and from fountains are disallowed.
Therefore, you must find other ways to replenish your mana and health and gain stats.

3) Attributal Character - by Omega
Class: Any

Your character can only use equipment which adds to a certain attribute. (Which attribute is up to you.) For example, if you played a Dexterity Rogue, you could only use items that added to dexterity (ring of precision, sword of skill, etc.).

The hardest to play would probably be a Vitality Warrior, and the easiest would probably be a Magic Mage.

4) Ages - Concept by LunarMoon, this version by LemmingofGlory
Class: Any

I remember that someone from the Sorcerers Tower came up with a restricted character that obsessed with items "of Ages." To the best of my recollection, this person was LunarMoon. While I don't have the exact rules, I do have my impression of what they were. My impression of it was that it couldn't use an item unless it was "of Ages" or an indestructible unique. Finally, I'll add this rule: An item made indestructible via Hidden Shrines or an Oil (in Hellfire) is cannot be used.

5) Golem - by Walkiry
Class: Any

A Golem has to allocate all the level up points in the primary skill, that is, strength for the Warrior; dexterity for the Rogue; magic for the Sorceror. No elixir drinking allowed until the primary skill is maxed, except for Vitality elixirs. Shrines that increase any skill except for vitality again are not allowed (so cauldrons and goat shrines are not allowed). Fountains of tears are not allowed either.

6) Pointless Characters - by Kreet; brought to the Asylum by Sirian; expanded to other classes by LemmingofGlory
Class: Any

The Pointless Character is a challenging character restriction. It's an extreme exercise for the advanced player, and an opportunity to learn the true power of any character class.

The Pointless are prohibited from altering their base statistics (Strength, Dexterity, Magic, Vitality) in any way whatsoever (Shrines/Pools/Fountains, Elixirs, Level Up Point Distribution). The Pointlesses must remain truly pointless. They must forever play with base stats of a level 1 character of their class and leave all points unassigned.

Pointlesses must play 100% PURE. No gifts from any other players at any time. No trades with other players. No allowing other players to buy items for you, or loan you gold. No exceptions. The Pointless must find or buy all their own gear, including books. Pointlesses should play cooperatively only with other purist characters.

Spoils from playing cooperatively are not considered gifts or trades, but the players have to be working together; either teaming, or separated but working on clearing the same level(s). In this case, a Pointless may divvy up the spoils, but use reason. Use common sense, and obey the spirit of the rule.

7) One - by LemmingofGlory
Class: Any

The only item restriction is that a "One" cannot use items with more than a single magical/special effect. This includes all identified unique items. However, most uniques may be used when unidentified, with some exceptions.

Banned Though Unidentified Base Type Reason
Demonspike Coat Full Plate Mail Higher than normal Armor Class

Gladiator's Bane Studded Leather Armor Higher than normal Armor Class
Higher than normal Durability
All Unique Shields Buckler, Small Shield, Large Shield
Kite Shield, Gothic Shield, Tower Shield
All have higher than normal Armor Class
All have higher/lower than normal Durability or are Indestructible
The Celestial Bow Long Bow¹ No Strength Requirement
Provides Armor Class
Torn Flesh of Souls Rags Higher than normal Armor Class
Indestructible
The Rainbow Cloak Cloak Higher than normal Armor Class
Higher than normal Durability
Leather of Aut Leather Armor Higher than normal Armor Class
Indestructible

¹: The other unique long bows are The Blackoak Bow and Fleshstinger. They may be used, but not the Celestial Bow. The Celestial Bow can be identified by its lack of strength requirement.

8) Jewels Only Mage - by Kaervek
Class: Sorcerer
Tag: JoM

A JoM is mage that uses only jewelry. You may not use two of the same rings even if they have different stats. If you ever find a Topaz ring of Magic (+5) it must be used at all times and you may use no other items of jewelry.
