Military Membership


The re-created 33rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry represents the men of the original 33rd who fought in the American Civil War from September 1863 to April 1865. The 33rd saw the majority of its action in the western theater, serving in the Twentieth Corps under General William Tecumseh Sherman. Among other campaigns, , the 33rd participated in Sherman's famous Georgia campaign, marching from Atlanta to the Sea. Today's 33rd is a group of men, mostly from the Sussex, Morris and Warren County area who participate in local and national living history events and battle reenactments. The Soldiers are drilled in the infantry tactics and formations of the period.
