NURSERY NOTES
BY GORE NURSERY
NOVEMBER 2004

September was a very difficult time for us in the nursery business, with Dade, Broward, and West Palm nurseries losing millions of dollars in crops and sales due to the Hurricanes. All of us are working hard to find plants to bring into our stores and we hope the shortage will not last long. Many nurseries have had to start their crops all over again and the cooler it is the slower the plants grow. Thank you all for your understanding and especially for your business.
Remember the final step of the chemical Diazinon phase out will take place on December 31, 2004. On this date all Diazinon products will need to be removed from our shelves. One of the products we are recommending is Ultra-Fine Oil which is an all season Horticultural Insecticide, Miticide and Fungicide. Unlike traditional chemicals that affect a pest's nervous system, the oil smothers the target pest population, eggs as well as adults on contact. Ultra-Fine can also be used right up to the day of harvest on vegetables. Most importantly, there is no documented case where insects or mites have developed resistance to Ultra-Fine Oil. Any questions stop in we will be glad to show you this chemical and others that are safe for you to use.
Try planting some colorful annuals in your front yard or by your front door, where you can get maximum impact from your flower beds. White impatiens or any other white flower will show up better at night. Fertilize Poinsettias lightly early in November for the last time before the Christmas blooming season.
From all of us at Gore Nursery we wish you a Happy and Family filled Thanksgiving.

  Thanks Again Bob and Fred
