ASSIGNMENTS

Cover Sheet Example

Note: As you create projects, you should save them all for further use. You will need them as you work toward your Technology Portfolio. I will show you how to incorporate the projects into a PowerPoint presentation.

Project 1

Use a word processing application to make a sign to be placed in a computer lab reminding students of copyright laws. (25 points)

Project 2
AUP Policy
If you are working for a school system, locate a copy of their AUP and bring to class. Write a one page paper interpreting what it is we need for students to know and your role in making this happen. (25 points)

Project 3
Puzzles
Create two puzzles for classroom use in your chosen major area. You may use the puzzle links or any desktop publishing software of your choice. Turn in the puzzles in two forms each, one incomplete and one completed. (25 points each; 50 points total)

 Project 4
Certificates
Create two different certificates that you would present to students for either academic or athletic achievement. You may use software of your choice. If you can, please use a color printer. (25 points each; 50 points total)

Project 5
Publish two calendars
A. One should be a calendar for the upcoming month and should include important dates for you. Include your class meetings, both dates and times. Include any other extracurricular events that you are planning. (You may choose to design a calendar or important dates from history if you so choose.)

B. The second calendar should be a calendar for students in your class. Include information for students and their parents for any month of the school year. Make up dates and events. Use clip art as needed for both. You may use software of your choice. (25 points each; 50 points total)

Project 6
 Graphic Organizers
 Download a trial copy of Inspiration. Look through the examples provided at the website or on the Kidspiration/Inspiration page of Technology for Educators. Design a concept map for an idea/book/concept.  (100 points)

Project 7
Information Brochure
Using desktop publishing software, create an information brochure for your class. This brochure can be for an upcoming event, or unit of study.  Include background information about the topic as well as upcoming plans. Include clip art, word art, lines, boxes around text, etc. Print in color if possible. (100 points)

Project 8
Mail Merge
Prepare a database of 10 names and address of students in your class. Include a minimum of 8 fields including last name, first name, street address, city, state, zip, birthday, and e-mail addresses. Sort the database according to last names. Prepare a field trip letter to parents for a mail merge. You will need to leave places to merge data from your database. In this letter, tell parents where you are going, when, and how this ties into your curriculum. Include any pertinent information you think you need to in order to make sure parents have all the information they need, (ex. Time you will leave and arrive back at school, do you need chaperones, what will students need to bring with them on the day of the trip) (100 points)

Project 9
Labels
Using the same database created above, print out address labels for the names in your database. These labels may be printed on plain paper if you do not have labels. (50 points)

Project 10
Educational Web Site List
Compile a list of 10 web sites (minimum) which offer lesson plans or activities that correlate with curriculum objectives. Include an annotated description of each address. (100 points)

Project 11
Clip Art Web Site List
Compile a list of 10 web sites (minimum) which offer helpful clip art for educational publishing. Include an annotated description of content found at each address. (100 points)

Project 12
Search Engines/Scavenger Hunt
Create an Internet scavenger hunt for a particular theme or content area. It should include descriptions of the relevant information to be found, a space for the answer and another space for recording the URL where the information was found. You should include at least 10 items in the hunt. (100 points)

Project 13
Spreadsheet Activity
Pick a grade level and design a spreadsheet activity to be utilized in teaching an objective/concept. (Be sure to refer to the NCSCOS before beginning) (100 points)

Project 14
Gradebook
Create a Gradebook using the GradeKeeper, InteGrade, Microsoft Works, etc. software. Enter 20 student names and at least 5 sets of grades. Turn in the completed disk. Make sure your name is on the diskette. Print out a copy of the spreadsheet. (50 points)

Project 15
Story Sack

Create a Story Sack based on a children’s book. You will need to design a bag out of cloth. Inside your Story Sack you will need to include a brochure for parents about the Story Sack. Some other items that will need to be included in your story sack will be puzzles, worksheets, games, audio tape, puppets, props, costumes, coloring books or coloring pages, crayons, written suggestions and items to help act out the story, etc. (400 points)

Project 16
PowerPoint Presentation
Design a PowerPoint presentation of at least 5 cards to introduce your WebQuest to your students. You should include a storyboard as part of your project. You should include graphics, buttons, text objects, word art, transitions etc. (100 points)

Project 17
Software Evaluation
A fundamental reason for using computer software is to enhance teaching and learning. Use the Software Evaluation form to evaluate a children’s software program.  (100 points) Software Evaluation Form

Project 18
WebQuest  - WebQuest Components
Visit the Bernie Dodge WebQuest page. (http://edweb.sdsu.edu/webquest/webquest.html) Study the format for a WebQuest. Using the template and other classroom resources, design a WebQuest. (500 points) (WebQuest Evaluation Rubric)
