Vivek Oberoi to join the Indian Army
Actor Vivek Oberoi has announced plans to join the Indian army in an honorary position. Father-actor Suresh Oberoi said Vivek was offered this position by the Indian army and he is keen to take it up. Oberoi
has had a string of flops barring the moderately successful 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' but Suresh Oberoi clarified that his son will not give up his acting career and will be working for the army on an honorary basis only. Vivek will have to undergo a fitness test for this. Suresh Oberoi said they would be meeting the Chief of Army Staff soon. He also said that many people in his family had served the defence forces including his grandfather (Vivek's great-grandfather) and father although the later was thrown out of the army for joining Bhagat Singh.
Suresh Oberoi said his son Vivek went through a very tough and stressful time when working in 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' as he had just lost Aishwarya Rai and the media had gone against him.

Vivek Oberoi once involved with Aishwarya Rai, had public spats with Salman Khan over her. Later Aishwarya Rai broke up with him to marry Abhishek Bachchan. Since then Vivek has made many attempts to patch up with Salman Khan, even publicly apologising to Khan by going down on his knees on stage, before a 5000-strong audience but Salman Khan has refused to let bygones be bygones.
Vivek Oberoi has also been spotted from time to time and been linked with, several women from show business. Some months ago he had a brief altercation with actor Sanjay Dutt, after he got over-friendly with Dutt's girlfriend Manyata, not knowing the relationship they shared. The Bachchan family too is believed to be not-so-keen to work with Vivek Oberoi after taking Aishwarya Rai into their clan.
