MY STORY

I first discovered Hard Candy in 1996. I was reading US magazine and saw a small article about the company. At that time, they only had a few pastel nail polish shades to offer. The blurb said that this nail polish had "swept Beverly Hills" and that it was a favorite of Alicia Silverstone and Pamela Anderson. The color names were equally intriguing... Sky, Bubblegum, Sunshine... I was instantly infatuated with the idea of "colored" nail polish with funky sounding names. See, at the time, pink & red were the colors du jour. Trés boring! The Hard Candy line promised to be cool, hip, funky, chic, expensive, haute, & all things good.

I immediately began scouring the web for any information I could find on Hard Candy and their products. The pickings were slim. I was able to find a couple of articles about them that included a little background info, a phone number, and some color names. I distinctly remember placing my first order. I lived in an area that didn't carry Hard Candy, so I had to place all of my orders over the phone w/a credit card. When I called the company, a guy answered... I said I wanted to order Sunshine & Sushi (I wasn't even sure what the colors were but I thought the names sounded cool.) Here's the rest of the conversation...

Me: "Do you have any purple shades?"
Him: "Yup, Violet, Pimp, Fetish..."
Me: "Is Pimp a medium shade of purple?"
Him: "Yes."
Me: "Okay, I'll take that."
Him: "I knew you were a Pimp kind of girl..." (ha, ha)
Me: "Oh..... ha, ha, ha..." (huh?!)

I eagerly waited for my new nail polish to arrive. When it finally did I was so excited. I took it out of its package and I was instantly hooked for life. These polishes were so CUTE! After that, I was placing orders every other week until I finally had the whole line. I had a pretty good job and not a lot of expenses. It seemed worth it to me to blow all my dough on Hard Candy. People would always ask me, "Does Hard Candy pay you to promote their products?" My answer has always been and will always be a resounding NO! I have only been in contact with Hard Candy peripherally. I swore around 1999 or so that I was done with Hard Candy for good. Why? Because one day they just seemed to stop answering their phones... I had placed some orders with them directly (back when they were taking direct customer orders) and they never sent them. I was charged about $65 and never sent anything. I waited and waited for my Rock Star Eyeshadow Quad, and a bunch of other things that I ordered. I know now that they were having some sort of distribution problems. I guess I can't blame them for growing too big too fast. A while ago, they were acquired by LVMH (the luxury goods goliath...) Now it seems, they have the resources to provide product to their customers again. Yippee!
