Born June 27, 1975, Tobias Vincent Maguire, the star of tomorrow, was born in Santa, California. With divorced parents, Tobey Maguire comes from a family of 4 half-brothers.

Although wanting to be a cook when he was younger, his mother had made a deal with him to drop the home economics class to do drama. With a hundred dollars in mind, ironically, Maguire showed skills in performance. He did then quit school to make acting a career.

He began with little television commercials and guest starring roles until he eventually scored a recurring role in his own sitcom called Great Scott! Unfortunately, the show didn't prove to be such a success, with it being axed weeks later.

Soon after, Tobey landed a small role in Empire Records after auditioning for the main role. Because he felt he was being self-destructive and having a rough time interacting with others, he left during production. Tobey Maguire asked the Allan Moyle, the director of the film to let him go because he felt he had to re-evaluate things. This left him out of the audition process for months.

Fortunately, the Hollywood star returned to acting to star as Kate Capshaw's son in Griffin Dunne's Duke of Groove, a short film which received Oscar nomination and raised Maguire's profile. He also starred in Joyride, a barely seen movie with Wilson Cruz and Amy Hathaway. In 1997 he starred in a Woody Allen film called Deconstructing Harry as a shoe salesman. In the same year he worked with director Ang Lee in the film, The Ice Storm, playing Joan Allen's son, Paul Hood. It was not until 1998's Pleasantville which made audiences sit up, as he had his first major starring role along Reese Witherspoon, as twins being teleported back into a 1950's sitcom.

Don's Plum, another film Maguire starred in the same year of 1998, caused controversial, leading to a court dispute over whether the film can be shown. As a result, the short film can be shown everywhere expect North America.

Once again he was back to work with director Ang Lee. This time he starred in 1999's Ride With The Devil, which co-starred pop singer Jewel. Following that he appeared in The Cider House Rules, based on the novel by John Irving. The film was a huge success being for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture. The movie won 2 awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.

In the following year of 2000, Tobey starred in Curtis Hanson's Wonderboys with Michael Douglas. He played a college student James Leer, alongside A-list actors Katie Holmes (TV'S Dawson's Creek) and Robert Downey Jr (TV'S Ally McBeal).

With many roles in all sorts of television shows and films, it was not until his contract in 2002's Spiderman which rose the actor to stardom. Playing a teenage boy named Peter Parker, his character is bitten by a spider and gains spider-like powers. A film proving to be a huge hit as a blockbuster, Tobey Maguire has also signed on to the two sequels following the first Spiderman.
