The first time I ever saw flagging was in Miami. I remember being mesmerized, watching as the fabric danced with the flagger. Yet somehow when he let me try, everything was in discord. A few months later an acquaintance gave me a ten-minute crash course in the basics, and I took it from there. I had my first encounter with buying fabric and working with a sewing machine.

Later I stumbled onto the Yahoo! group SpinTribe. There I learned about the flagging community and tie dye. With the generous help of Don Baker I made my first real set of dyed flags.

I've also found (rediscovered?) the art of poi. Going from flagging to spinning poi seemed a very natural progression, and I think I've picked up the basics quickly. Many of the motions are very similar, but the feeling is totally different. For the curious, Home of Poi is an excellent resource for poi, staff, and other types of spinning. They have an excellent set of animated tutorials I've not seen anywhere else.
