MY POETRY

"FEAR"
The dreams that you have at night
reflect the fear that you feel during the day,
you might not know that the fear is there
until you close your eyes at night,
and the ghosts that are hidden all day
come to haunt you in your dreams.

"TORTURED"
In the corner was a long thin shadow
the last cry of a lost soul
his other cries had gone unanswered,
he reached out for help many times
but no one ever reached back;
tormented thoughts raced through his mind
clouding his judgment
and leading him the wrong way;
couldn't anyone hear him calling out
desperation engulfed him
consumed his every thought
the shadow in the corner kept whispering his name
beckoning to him;
he walked to the corner and let the shadow embrace him
the shadow freed his tortured soul;
together they swung like a pendulum
keeping time;
but for this lost soul there was no more time

"UNCERTAIN"
As I walked towards him
I felt as if life was in slow motion,
many emotions were coursing through me
I could see past events flashing through my mind,
would the life I was walking towards
be better than the life I was leaving behind;
with each step I was brought closer
to the man I would soon call husband,
I could see him looking at me
and he was smiling;
life started to speed up and past memories left,
seeing his smile pulled me back to the present;
as I reached his side a smile settled on my face,
I remembered that life is always uncertain
and even if the life I was walking towards
wasn't everything I had dreamed and hoped for,
if I didn't take this chance
then I wasn't really living life at all.

"EMBRACE ME"
People tell me I am supposed to fear death,
which I do most of the time;
sometimes I want death to embrace me
and never let go;
people say that this is a sin,
but I don't think it is;
Why should it be?
Sometimes life gets complicated
and very hard to deal with,
why should I be forced to?
I should be able to let death embrace me
without it being a sin;
after a while
I remember that I am supposed to fear death,
and I do.

"LAYERS"
I peeled off my protective armor last night
When I gave myself to you,
As each piece of armor fell away in your hands
You took part of my soul with it,
I’ve been building my protective armor over time
Covering and hiding my pain from the world,
I never thought someone could penetrate my armor
Or take part of my soul,
No one ever knew which part to peel away first
But you did;
You looked in my eyes and saw the pain reflected there
And you just knew I could be broken out of my armor,
You took the time to see my pain when no one else would;
For this I give you the rest of my soul
To blend and mesh with yours
To make us soul mates through all of time
Until we walk through eternity’s door.

~UNTITLED~

Walking down the street
Her shoulders hunched by age
A cigarette dangling from her
Nicotine and dirt stained fingers
People turning to stare
As they pass her by

She stops at a garbage can
And pulls out
A half eaten apple,
As the people stare
She takes a bite
And smiles.

~UNTITLED~

It stands alone
At the edge of the sea,
Rocks that have been
Worn smooth over time
Surround its base,
The sides are faded
From many years of the oceans fury,
The windows are tinted with grime
After years of being neglected,
The roof is sunken and moss covered
From the water
That has seeped into its pores,
This house
That stands alone
At the edge of the sea,
Proudly displays the beauty marks
That over the years
The ocean has placed upon its brow.

~UNTITLED~

The old woman sits
In a chair by the fire,
An open book on her lap
And her beloved dog at her feet,
There is a sad smile on her face
As she thinks of past years,
The ache of being alone
Since her husband passed away,
Her children are grown
And leading lives of their own,
She has seen many things
Both tragic and wonderful,
There is wisdom that sparkles in her eyes
From her knowledge of life,
Wisdom that can only be found from
Enjoying the good times
And living through the bad.

"THEIR QUEST"

She searches his face
Hoping to find the truth
Hidden among the laugh lines,
And through the tears
Shining in his eyes.

These last few months
Have been trying
And tough on both of them;
Now the end was here.

She was confused
By the conflict
Of emotions
Displayed on his face.

Was he prepared
For the inevitable,
For what would
Be waiting beyond.

He grasped her hand
And smiled through his tears,
She gave him a peaceful look
Closed her eyes,
And quietly passed on.

"TO ESTHER"

A chance meeting
around the way
inspiration given
with kind words,
A blessing to
be in your presence
enlightenment for
those that surround you,
A long life lived
with beautiful expression.
