ABOUT THE ACS(I) ASTRONOMY CLUB.

The Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) Astronomy Club is an interest group of about 25 students who are interested in Astronomy. We have our own small obsevatory in school located at the swimming gallery housing our C-14 telescope and Dobsonian 6 inch telescope.

We hold stargazing sessions occasionally on Friday nights. Last year, the Singapore Girl Guides Association sent their guides to school for Introduction to Astronomy / Stargazing. The Girl Guides were presented with a talk, followed by viewing of celestial objects with our telescopes and they also engaged in naked eye stargazing. To many of them, it was their first time looking through the telescope. God truly blessed us with clear skies, and a good number of constellations were visible on the nights.

The Astronomy Club has added to its list of equipments, a digital camera and a 6-inch Dobsonian telescope along with a few eyepieces. With the digital camera, we are able to take wonderful pictures of Jupiter, Saturn and the Orion nebula. Long exposure shots revealed some of the fainter heavenly objects that our eyes are not sensitive enough to detect. Our C-14 telescope is one of the second largest telescopes in Singapore.

We hope that the Astronomy Club will continue to grow from strength to strength, while believing that The Best Is Yet To Be!
