WEB BUCKS
REBATE? or RIPOFF?
Just what is a web-buck? A web-buck is a promotional tool that gets us to buy certain items that may or may not be selling very well. The web buck is like a rebate, cash in hand to use at our next visit to the store. In this case, web-bucks are for grocery stores, but someday other stores, like department stores and hardware stores, might implement the same system. How do you get a web buck and is it always a "buck". The amount of a web-buck varies from item to item as little as $0.15 for buying a 4lb pound of name brand sugar(forgot which brand) or as much as $3.00 for trying the new Pepcid Complete acid reducer and antacid 5 count. Getting web-bucks require a printout from Valupage I guess if you can read this page you are online so click the link and do what is says. Of course you will need a printer.
The trick is to buy only items you would normally get or get items you want that you don't normall buy because they are to expensive. The Pepcid Complete 5ct chewable acid reliever is $3.49 (for only 5 tablets) and that is much more expensive than a lb of sodium bicarbonate or a bottle of Tums. The $3.00 web-buck get the price down to $0.49+ 22cents tax ($0.71 total). Now I'll try them for less than a quarter each for high tech antacid tablets. This week, McCormick taco seasoning is on sale 3/$2 or 67cents each. If I buy 2 pkgs I get a $1.25 web-buck making the cost for 2pkgs=9cents. Kroger brand soups are on sale this week at 25cents a can. I still buy Campbells brand Chicken Noodle Soup because I get vouchers for 50 labels towards the "Labels for Education Program". At one Kroger the 79cent CNS is rung up at 50cents and I get the 50 label paper AND a 75cent web-buck. I have been paying 35cents a can and getting the extral label paper.
I figure that as long as we buy things we want or need and get web-bucks for future purchases, it's cool. One time I decided to get nearly everything on the printout...BAD IDEA! I spent almost all my money on things I would never buy. I felt ripped off but it was just my poor judgement. My taco seasoning count is at 70 or more, with a street value of over $50 bucks, but I use it all the time for chili, meatloaf, stew, soup, etc.
I had $15 and needed to get gasoline, but i also wanted to get some stuff that i needed at my local Kroger store. Since the store had a gas station, too, I got my stuff first and paid for the gas with web-bucks. I had two $1.25 w-b for taco seasoning purchases, a $3.00 w-b for the Pepcid Complete and a 75cent for the Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup. Now I'll get 1 more Pepcid and 2 more taco seasonings and I'll have $10.50 in web-bucks and I only spent $3.44 on my groceries. I'm loving it and ,yes, I'm LOL.
