James likes skateboarding and once when Metallica was on tour with Ozzy Osbourne, he jumped from his skateboard and...boom! He broke his hand. That's why Metallica continued playing with James' roadie James Marshal, playing while Hetfield sang."We are not enemies", James says. "but we are not friends neither. During a concert in Montreal, 1994 James was burned really bad."And there was a lead singer 'barbecue' incident a few years ago in Montreal: our pyro guy, whose name was Shaky didn't keep his eyes open and I was standing in the wrong spot as an explosion went off. Boom! I was engulfed in a 4 m. flame. I looked at my hand and watched my skin bubble up. It was a long and gruesome recovery." James says. " It was down to the bone. My hand looked like hamburger. No matter how much water you poured on it, the pain came back instantly. The most painful part was the physical therapy- they would scrape off the skin with a tongue depressor. It was brutal. I was on pills too, and it still hurt like a motherfucker".James has been a pioneer of the ill-advised "mullet" hairdo. "It was one of those things where I kinda wanted short hair, but kinda didn't- I was scared", he says. "So you take the bears trimmer and go a little higher, and sooner or later you have thismullet.
