IntroductionIn the book of Exodus, God introduces Himself to Moses as The Great I Am. The Alpha and the Omega.
This is an extensive Bible study that gives the scripture references that describe the attributes of God. God is complete and perfect in every way, this is described through the Names of God. God is all we need no matter what the situation, The Great I Am. We need more of God in those special situations.
Jehovah - the Self Existent One (Genesis 2:4; Exodus 3:13,14) Jehovah-Shalom - the Lord is peace (Phil 4:8,9; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 13:5,6; John 14:27) him ending of Elohim is very significant, for it is a plural ending in the Hebrew that indicates three or more. El Shaddai - All Sufficient One (Genesis 17:1-3) Shaddai means breast (Hebrew word Shad that is the breast).
Jehovah-Jireh - the Lord will provide (Genesis 22: 1-19)
Jehovah-Rapha - the Lord that heals
Healing the bitter waters at Marah (Exodus 13:21,11)
the tree representing the cross of Christ (Isaiah 53)
Jehovah-Nissi - the Lord my banner (Exodus 17:15; Romans 15:4;)
Jehovah-Mekoddishkem - the Lord sanctifies me (Exodus 19:2-6; 1 Peter 2:9;)
also spelled mekaddishkem (Exodus 31:12-18; Hebrews 10:10-14)
Jehovah-Sabaoth - the Lord of Hosts (52 times in Zechariah, 83 times in Jeremiah)
Sabaoth is written tsebaah according to the Abingdon's Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible and is the word for a mass, a mass of people or things such as an army. It is used to refer to a host of angels or heavenly bodies, a celestrial army, or all the earth contains. (1 Samuel 1:1-3,6,7,10,11)
Elohim - Creator (Genesis 1:1; Deut. 6:4; Hebrews 1:3; Col. 1:16)
El means mighty or strong. Elohim is the primary work translated God in the Old Testament (Sometimes Jehovah is translated God rather than Lord).
El Elyon - God most High (Genesis 14:20; Psalms 78:35; Daniel 4:34,35)
designates God as the sovereign ruler of all the universe.
El Roi - The God who sees (Psalms 139:7-12; 2 Thes. 1:5-10)
The Omnipresent God is there and His eyes are not shut. He is not asleep, slumbering, unaware of all the circumstances. HE SEES
El means mighty and strong, powerful
Pourer-forth.
God had promised Abraham that he would be blessed and receive an inheritance and a seed which would be as the dust of the earth for multitude.
Adonai - the Lord (Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 6:46; Phil 1:20,21;)
Bow before Him - a relationship, His total possession of me and my total submission to Him as Lord and Master.
Conclusion
May we worship God more effectively by using His names in worship. We need to remind ourselves of His greatness by using His names in worship.
May we pray God's names (calling out the name according to our need and the name that describes His attribute) to remind ourselves of His completeness. That God is able to do all things. He is above all situations including death (death was conquered because the resurrection took place).
