The Sword!
Please turn with me in your bibles
to the book of Isaiah, reading from chapter 1 and verses 19 &
20. (If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the
land: ver.20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be
devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.)
This afternoon I want to preach a
message entitled: DEVOURED BY THE SWORD,
OR DELIVERED BY THE SWORD! I want you to know today that the SWORD will ether DEVOUR YOU, or that SWORD will DELIVER YOU.
Now I’m not talking about a
sword that men of war in old times would carry into battle; but I
want to preach to you today about a SWORD that is greater then that. The SWORD that I’m preaching about, that will
ether DELIVER
YOU, or DEVOUR YOU is the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT,
WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD!
The apostle Paul wrote about it in
Eph. 6 while exhorting the church to PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD!
Now there are some
folks that don’t feel like they need all that God has
provided for them to keep them safe against the wiles of the
devil. But I want to declare unto you today that EVERY BIT of the
armor is IMPORTANT,
NECESSARY and NEEDED. You see your not PROTECTED and SAFE unless you have PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD!
You can pad lock your doors and
windows. You can rig your house with alarm systems, and you can
even hire personal body guards, but God wants you to know that
your still not safe unless you have on the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD! Ps.4:8
says this; (I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou,
LORD,
only makest me dwell in safety.) Pro.21:30 & 31 declares this; (
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
ver.31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of
the LORD.)
Somebody Raise Your Hands And Praise The Lord.
Along with all the armor, Paul
exhorts the people of God in Eph.6:17 (And take the helmet of
salvation, and
the sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God:)
Look at what else Paul had to say
about this SWORD
in Heb.4:12 (For the word of God
is quick, and
powerful, and sharper
than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and
spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the
thoughts and intents of the heart.)
The scripture I’m getting
ready to use may seem out of place in the message, but as I was
typing this onto the computer my bible program started giving me
trouble so I had to turn it off, and when I turned it back on
this was the scripture that was highlighted. So I believe God
want’s it put in right here. I had not even planed on using
this portion of scripture in the message.
Neh.4:17 & 18 (They which
builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that
laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and
with the other hand held a weapon. ver.18 For the builders, every one had
his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet
was by me.) Someone needs to read the book of Nehemiah God wants
to speak to your heart.
You’ll also find in Rev.1:16
(And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth
went a
sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his
strength.) What is that SHARP TWOEDGED SWORD? Praise God it’s His WORD!
Look again with me at Isa. 1:20; (But
if ye refuse and rebel, ye
shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.) I made mention earlier in the message
that, the WORD
OF GOD will ether WORK FOR YOU, or it will WORK AGAINST YOU!
It will ether DELIVER YOU, or it will DEVOUR YOU!
One or the other.
Friend, REFUSING TO OBEY
GOD’S WORD,
and REBELLING
AGAINST IT is what always moved the Almighty God to FIGHT AGAINST the DISOBEDIENT and REBELLIOUS!
Let us take note in 1Sam.15:23
and see why God is so set against the DISOBEDIENT and REBELLIOUS; (For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the
word of the LORD,
he hath also rejected thee from being king.) Now it is clear to
see why God WILL NOT bless the Disobedient and Rebellious. For
our God, who is TRUE and HOLY is totally SET AGAINST Witchcraft
in ALL of it’s forms. And it was He who
declared: THOU
SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME!
Again in the 1Sam.12:15 the Word
of God declares; (But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD,
but rebel against the commandment of the LORD,
then shall the hand of the LORD be against
you, as it was
against your fathers.) Let’s look at Job 36:11&12 also;
(If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in
prosperity, and their years in pleasures. ver.12 But if they obey
not, they shall perish
by the sword, and they
shall die without knowledge.) Notice; If they OBEY NOT, THEY SHALL PERISH
BY THE SWORD!
Isa.63:10; (But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to
be their enemy,
and he
fought against them.) Take a good look at it. GOD BECAME THEIR
ENEMY, AND HE FOUGHT
AGAINST THEM! And what was it that God used to fight against them
with? HIS
SWORD; THE WORD! The
same SWORD that had brought about their DELIVERANCE and
VICTORY so many
times before when they PUT THEIR TRUST IN IT, is now being used against them to bring
about their DEFEAT; and all because they have REFUSED TO OBEY
IT, and have REBELLED AGAINST
IT!
How many know that a sword can GIVE LIFE, or TAKE LIFE? And whether it gives life or takes life
all depends on which end of the sword your on. Whether your on
the HANDLING
END, or whether
your on the CUTTING
END!
Rev.19:13-15 & 21 (And he was
clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. ver.14 And the armies which were in
heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen,
white and clean. ver.15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations:
and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the
winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. ver.21 And
the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword
proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.)
These will be on the CUTTING END OF THE SWORD!
What was it that God told Moses to
tell the people in Dut.30:19? (I call heaven and earth to record
this day against you, that I have set before you life and death,
blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and
thy seed may live:) Now you will notice that what Moses was
setting before them was the Laws, Judgments, Commandments, and
the Statutes of God. HE WAS GIVING THEM GOD’S WORD! What God was saying to them was this: If
you CHOOSE
TO OBEY MY WORD, THEN
YOU HAVE CHOSEN LIFE AND BLESSINGS! This is the HOLDING and HANDLING END of God’s Word. But if you CHOOSE TO REBEL
AGAINST MY WORD,
and REFUSE
TO OBEY IT; THEN YOU
HAVE CHOSEN CURSINGS AND DEATH! You will be on the CUTTING END of God’s Word. It will ether be Death
by the SWORD, or Life by the SWORD!
Now I want you to know, that
everyone of us at one time had to face the CUTTING END of God’s Sword. If your saved today,
it’s because you faced that end of God’s Sword. YOU HAD TO LOSE
YOUR LIFE BY HIS SWORD, IN ORDER TO GAIN
HIS LIFE BY HIS SWORD! Can Someone Shout Amen? That OLD MAN had to die by that Sword, and be buried
with Christ so that that NEW MAN could arise and WALK IN THE NEWNESS OF LIFE!
Jesus made this truth clear in
Mark 8:34 & 35 (And when he had called the people unto him
with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come
after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow
me. ver.35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his
life for my sake and the gospel's, the
same shall save it.)
Take a look at what Jesus said to
His church in Rev.2:16; (Repent; or else I will come unto thee
quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.) These are they who sought to SAVE THEIR LIVES.
What is the Blessing and
Tremendous Privilege of the Believer? It is the RIGHT TO HANDLE
GOD’S WORD! Now I’m talking about them that have GAVE UP THEIR
LIVES TO THE SWORD,
so that they can have LIFE BY THE SWORD!
In 1 John 1:1 it says; (That which
was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen
with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have
handled, of the Word of
life;) Also in 2Cor.
4:1 & 2 it gives reference to HANDLING THE WORD OF GOD; (Therefore seeing we have this ministry,
as we have received mercy, we faint not; ver.2 But have renounced
the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the
word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending
ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.) If you
want the Sword to WORK FOR YOU, then you must HANDLE IT RIGHT. In old times when a man of war would go
out to do battle against his enemy, he DID NOT hold his sword by the sharp end; that’s
THE
CUTTING END, that’s
the end that is used to SLAY THE ENEMY! He would take it by the HANDLE and then go out to face his enemy.
God want’s you to know that
if your His child, He has provided you a SWORD along with the armor, THE SWORD OF THE
SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD! And if that Sword is HANDLED RIGHT, whenever you do battle against the enemy
it will mean their Defeat and Death, but it will be your LIFE AND VICTORY! Let’s go in our bibles to the book of
2Sam.5 and read verses 17-20; 22-25 (But when the Philistines
heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the
Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and
went down to the hold. ver.18 The Philistines also came and
spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. ver.19 And David inquired
of the LORD,
saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them
into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the
Philistines into thine hand. ver.20 And David came to Baalperazim,
and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth
upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore
he called the name of that place Baalperazim. ver.22 And the
Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the
valley of Rephaim. ver.23 And when David inquired of the LORD,
he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind
them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. ver.24
And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops
of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for
then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the
Philistines. ver.25 And David did so, as
the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou
come to Gazer.)
Let’s take a good look at
this. David had an Army, he had Solders, he had Horses, he had
Chariots, he had Armor, he had Swords and Spears, he had Mighty
Men of Valor that would go into battle with him against any enemy.
And David even HAD
THE ANOINTING! So why
didn’t David just rush into battle against this enemy that
had come out against him? Here’s what David knew Ps.44:3-6 (For
they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but
thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance,
because thou hadst a favour unto them. ver.4 Thou art my King, O
God: command deliverances for Jacob. ver.5 Through thee will we
push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under
that rise up against us. ver.6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my
sword save me.)
What was it that King David knew
he had need of if he is going to ENJOY VICTORY OVER THIS ENEMY
THAT HAS COME AGAINST HIM? Dear friend of mine, he knew that he HAD TO HAVE GOD’S
SWORD, he
knew he must FIRST
HEAR FROM GOD! He must FIRST HEAR GOD’S WORD, and
RECEIVE IT FROM GOD! And David INQUIRED OF THE LORD, and then GOD SAID UNTO HIM! GOD
GAVE DAVID IS WORD! HE’S SAYING: HERE
YOU GO DAVID MY ANOINTED, TAKE MY SWORD, Glory To God, HERE’S MY
SWORD DAVID, TAKE IT,
AND WITH IT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DEFEAT THIS
ENEMY! Come on, Somebody Help Me Praise The Lord.
Saints of God, the same thing that
brought about David’s great Victory over ALL of his enemies,
is the very same thing that is going to give YOU VICTORY OVER
ALL OF YOUR ENEMIES. And that is THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT,
WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD!
David said in Ps.119:11 (Thy
word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against
thee.) If you will hid God’s Word "HIS SWORD"
in your heart, when
the devil tries to grab a hold of your heart with Hate, Jealousy,
Envy, Bitterness, Covetousness, backbiting, Gossip, Lying, Lusts,
Pride, Carnality, and Worldliness; the SWORD OF GOD hid in your heart will deal them the DEATH BLOW
so that they will not
be able to OVERCOME
YOUR HEART, and
you WILL
NOT SIN AGAINST GOD!
Hallelujah, WE HAVE
DELIVERANCE FROM ALL OF THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL;
BY THE SWORD OF GOD!
