Coming Soon: more information about OA Scout Reach

Story by: Steven Arisman

This article was orginally published in the National OA Bulletin. Please come back soon, as more information will be published and available about the program.

The Boy Scouts of America’s Scoutreach Division and the national
OA committee have approved the joint OA/Scoutreach Mentoring program.
The program’s key goals are to help Scouts achieve First Class
rank and earn Camping merit badge to promote (short- and long-term)
camping. The program’s mentors will serve as guides and as role models.
The program will help troops keep youth members active and inter-ested
while increasing the number of Scouts eligible for election to the
Order of the Arrow.
Besides the sense of accomplishment from helping others, mentors
will also receive the OA Mentor Award, which consists of a patch and a
certificate. The program will be unveiled at NOAC 2000, with additional
information shared at Lodge Leadership Development Courses, National
Leadership Seminars, and Philmont adviser training.
If you are interested in serving as a mentor, contact your lodge advis-er,
lodge chief or service committee. OA/Scoutreach Mentoring applica-tions
will be produced by the Scoutreach Division and issued at NOAC
2000 this summer.
