A HARVEST OF FRIENDS September 11, 1974
The Ingalls family moves to Walnut Grove, build a farm and buy seed
so they can plant their first crop. But Pa could not afford to buy this
seed so he says he will pay the guy later. To pay for the seeds Pa takes
another job at the Feed and Seed fixing the sign and roof and stacking
sacks of grain. After coming home after a hard days work, the Ingalls decide
to go on a picnic. Pa, while flying a kite, gets it stuck in a big tree.
Pa shouts that he will get it and climbs the tree. While reaching out to
get the kite, he slips out of the tree and breaks his ribs. With broken
ribs, Pa can not plow the field or go back to work. Realizing that if Pa
does not complete the work at the Feed and Seed, the Ingalls will
lose everything. Pa goes back to the Feed and Seed, and Laura and
Mary watch him. When Pa is dragging a sack he collapses, so Laura and Mary
continue dragging over the sack that Pa dropped when he collapsed. The
other men in the Town see what Laura and Mary are doing, and come over
to help. They also plow Pa's land, and Laura comments that Pa had planted
the best harvest of all, "A Harvest of Friends."
- How could Charles have even lifted those heavy sacks with broken ribs? I
think that those would only make it worse.
Contributed by Mark R, November 15, 1997.
- This isn't really a ntipick, but TBS shows this episode and "Country
Girls" out of order. They just started showing them from the beginning,
and already they are getting them out of order.
Contributed by Catherine, December 19, 1997.
- In this episode, Laura says she wrote something down in her "Remembrance
Book". But, in the very next episode "Country Girls" Laura
says "if I had a Remembrance Book..."
Contributed by Rebecca, December 21, 1997.
- As I seem to recall from
"On the Banks of Plum Creek" the Ingalls family did not build
their farm until they had been in Walnut Grove for several months. They
moved into a dugout in the fall and built the farmhouse in the spring.
Contributed by Megan L, January 4, 1998.
- The last thing I'd care
to do after a day of heaving sacks of grain is to fly a kite. Doesn't Pa
ever get tired?

COUNTRY GIRLS September 18, 1974
When Laura and Mary go to school for the first time Laura meets Nellie
Olsen. In this show Nellie and Laura become true enemys.
- Well, personally my nitpick was that it was much too hot that week,
but for those of you at home, notice how the pace of the show changes drastically
half way through. Michael Landon fired the director in the middle of the
week and took over. I like Michael's speed better, but hey you guys vote
on it.

THE 100 MILE WALK September 25, 1974
When Pa's crop gets ruined by an unexpected hail storm, Pa
walks 100 miles and finds a job at a railroad camp working with a sledge
hammer, wedge, and dynamite.

MR. EDWARDS' HOMECOMING October 2, 1974
When Mr.Edwards for the first time comes to Walnut Grove, the Ingalls
family persuades him to stay. Here he meets Grace Snider and
begins to fall in love with her.
- I was dissappointed that
he had to fall in love with someone. The books show him as an eccentric
bachelor.

THE LOVE OF JOHNNY JOHNSON October 9, 1974
When a new boy named Johnny Johnson moves to Walnut Grove, Laura`s eyes
are glued to him. One of her first crushes. Johnny
likes Laura only as a friend, but has his eyes on Mary. This
causes jealousy between Mary and Laura.
- Is that kid ugly or what?! For Laura's first crush, they could have
picked someone cuter! (I remember thinking that when I first saw the episode,
and I was in first grade.) Jonah in the fool's gold one--now he's cute.
Also, why was Mary so rude to him? Caroline taught her better than that.

IF I SHOULD WAKE BEFORE I DIE October 23, 1974
- I don't see how they could have possibly have pulled that trick off.
Amy Hearn being dead and all. And remember when Caroline went up to see
if she was ready to make her entrance? Well how did she get into the house
without anyone noticing??

TOWN PARTY, COUNTRY PARTY October 30, 1974
Nellie has a party and invites all the girls in her class. Nellie
shows off all her pretty things. Laura twisted her ankle at
the party because Nellie pushes her when she tries to touch Nellie's doll. There
was also a girl there named Olga. One of her legs were shorter
then the other and she limps when she walks. The next weekend,
Mary and Laura have a party of their own and invite all the girls, including
Nellie and Olga. They play games and Laura gets back at Nellie by
pushing her in the creek. Pa makes a special shoe for Olga,
allowing her to run around and play like a regular girl.
- When Mary goes to get Laura at the creek near the beginning of the
episode, Mary's hair is hanging down and parted down the middle. When they
walk into the house, Mary's hair is pulled back in a barrett.

SCHOOL MOM November 13, 1974
When Miss Beadle breaks her leg by falling off the wagon, Ma takes over
as teacher for the school. Here Ma meets what the children call,
"Dumb Able." Ma and the school children work together
teach Able to read.
Contributed by Jimmy, November 11, 1997.
Anyone care to translate this for
me? - Alex
- How could Caroline have taught Abel MacKay to read that fast? From
what I could see he only learned two words when they were doing that reading
exercise with the paper.

spelled "The Racoon"?

THE VOICE OF TINKER JONES December 4, 1974
- In this episode Mr. Hanson has a son. Where is he in the rest of the
episodes and were is his wife, is he married?
Contributed by Debbi E, August 21, 1997.
- Answer: Mr
Hanson never married and I don't think that that boy was his son. Just
someone he patted on the head when all the children revealed that they
had helped Tinker Jones with the bell. But I think that Mr. Hanson had
a girlfriend once, because in the episode where Carrie falls down the well,
he will not listen to the man who says that they should dig a path to the
well, because he stole some woman named Lucy away from Mr. Hanson many
years ago.

THE AWARD December 11, 1974
When there is going to be special award to the student who does the
best on an upcoming special exam, Mary studies really hard to win it. She
borrows an expensive book from Miss Beadle, and stays up late each night
studying. One night, while Mary was studying late, the light
kept Laura awake, so Mary takes a lantern and studies in the barn. Mary
soon falls asleep and kicks the lantern over and catches the barn on fire. Ma
comes racing out, and with the help of Laura and Mary, puts the fire out
before the barn is destroyed. Ma, angry at Mary, tells her she
cannot take part in the special exam, and Mary quietly accepts this. The
next day, while cleaning the barn, Mary discovers the book was destroyed
in the fire, and works at the Mercantile so that she can buy a new book.
Eventually, Mary earns enough money to replace the book and admits
to Miss Beadle she can not take part in the exam.

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD (Two Hour Episode) December 18, 1974
When Ma has a baby boy, Charles Jr, Laura gets jealous because Pa pays
more attention to the baby. When the baby gets sick and Ma and Pa
ask the girls to pray, Laura does not give the extra prayer. When
the baby dies, Laura sees how unhappy Pa is, and she runs away to
the mountains to be closer to God. She prays that God would
exchange her life for Charles Jr so Pa can be happy again. In
the mean time, Pa gets very worried and fears he will now lose two children
instead of one. He and Mr. Edwards search the country looking for Laura
as Pa gets weaker. Laura is visited by a stranger who tells her that
God has choosen that Laura should stay with her Pa, and that he will take
good care of Charles Jr. Eventually Pa finds Laura, and they all go home
happy!
- I have more of a question, rather than a nitpick about this episode.
When Charles and Caroline return home after the baby dies at the hospital,
where is the body? I wonder if we were supposed to think they buried the
child before they returned home, but then in "A
Most Precious Gift" there is a scene with Caroline praying at
the child's grave". Was the body in the back of the wagon or something?
They never showed a funeral.
Contributed by Kimberly, June 30, 1997.
Additional: That is a very good question, I never
thought about that. I guess we are suppose to think they buried the body.
I guess it was bad editting on the producer's part.
Additional by Debbi E, August 21, 1997.
Additional: I agree whatever happened to Charles
Jr.'s body?
Additional by Donna W, October 4, 1997.
- If this is the show I am thinking of, where laura runs away... there
are NO mountians of the size she ran away to anywhere NEAR Walnut Grove....
she would have had to run between 300 and 400 miles.
Contributed by Beth, September 17, 1997.
- Additional: I
agree, I've been to Walnut Grove and believe me, there isn't much of anything
that's interesting to look at, much less mountains.
Contributed by Nancy N, January 2, 1998.
- I found it strange that
Caroline and Charles did not rush in to be with their son when they heard
the prognosis. I believe they would have wanted spend their last moments
with him.
Contributed by Julie R, December 30, 1997.
- Charles Jr., in real life is burried along
the road near Troy, Minnesota. He died on the way from the Ingalls' move
from Walnut Grove to Charles' brother, Peter's, home near Wabasha Minnesota.
Almonzo's brother, Royal Wilder is burried in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
In the TV show, when Royal Wilder dies in "Times
are Changin'", They show Royal's grave just in front of Charles
Jr.'s grave, though, as pointed out earlier, the baby's body was never
brought back to Walnut Grove with Charles and Caroline.

CHRISTMAS AT PLUM CREEK December 25, 1974
- From my knowledge, Bunny apears in three more episodes (The
Race, Bunny, Journey
in the Spring), two of which are played out of order and make the
story slightly confusing.
Contributed by Alex Trenta, May 24, 1997.
- Didn't Pa Ingalls buy the stove also by making wagon wheels for Mr.
Oleson? So why did Laura have to give up bunny?
Contributed by Karnella, July 21, 1997.
Answer: Charles actually hadn't bought the stove
from Nels.....He had offered to buy it, but Nels said that it had already
been sold.....Nels just didn't tell Charles that it was to Laura.
Answered by Christi, August 23, 1997.
- It is Christmas time and there is snow on the ground, but all the trees
have green leaves and the grass in the background scenes, and around the
homes in town is very green also.
Contributed by Kandie, October 4, 1997.
- In the scene when the Ingalls are all shopping at the store, the music
skips about a LOT. I wonder if this was overlooked in the editing, or if
they meant it to be really choppy... hmmm...
Contributed by Rebecca, December 15, 1997.
- In the Christmas episode it shows Laura trading or selling bunny to
Nellie for an old stove. Well why does Bunny show up in other episodes
after that one? Does she buy her back or something?
Contributed by Dina G, December 15, 1997.
- Answer: Bunny is a pretty popular horse. In
this episode, Laura does indeed trade her horse for the stove. In "Bunny,"
we find that Nellie has been mistreating the horse, causing the horse to
throw her. Nellie then pretends that her injuries are very bad and tricks
Laura into doing her homework and chores. When Nels finds out how Nellie
has been treating both Laura and the horse, he gives it back to Laura.
Bunny is seen again in "The Race"
in which Laura races against Nellie on a different horse, and in "Jounrey
in the Spring" in which the horse gets injured and Charles has
to put it down.
Answer by Alex Trenta, December 22, 1997.
- Notice the obvious blanket made to look like
snow that is draped over the wood pile in various shots of the house. It
never even drifted!!!

FAMILY QUARREL January 5, 1975
- Near the end of this episode, Harriet, Nellie and Willie are shown
having a delicious dinner. Since Nels has been away from home for several
days at the time and Harriet is later shown as being totally incapable
in the kitchen, who cooked the dinner? Nellie couldn't before she met Percival
and Willie was much too young at the time.
Contributed by Mishka, June 13, 1997.
- Additional: Yes, but do you notice that both
Nellie and Willie ask if they can be excused from the table and there reason
was because they weren't hungry. The dinner was probably so bad that they
couldn't eat it!
Additional by Mark R, November 15, 1997.
- I have a theory about the great cooking debate. We who cook don't make
all things equally well and not necessarily a great number of meals. For
example, I can prepare various types of meals involving pasta or chicken
pretty well but I'm not too good at other things. This would explain why
Harriet can occasionally make the good meal.

PLAGUE January 29, 1975
When the rats get into the cornmeal they spread typhus to the townspeople. The
school house is converted to a hospital where Dr. Baker, Edwards, and Pa
tend the sick while the rest of the town was isolated to prevent the spread
of the plague. Many people continued to get sick and eventually die as
the plague kept spreading because they could not find the connection. Eventually
Charles and Dr. Baker realize the cornmeal is the connection, and to get
rid of the rats and fleas they burned the building where the cornmeal was
stored, rats and all.
- Ever notice that when the town has their yearly
plague episode, tons of people die, yet Charles and Dr. Baker never get
sick? They should make a vaccine out of Dr. Baker's blood as he survives
every epidemic that hits Walnut Grove and the surrounding communities.

CIRCUS MAN February 5, 1975
- Near the end where Mr. O'Hara is telling Laura that he didn't "make
Jack well", when it shows Laura from the front both her braids
are in front of her shoulders and when it shows her from the back, she
has one braid in front and one in back. It keeps flipping back and
forth between those two cuts. Then later during that same conversation
between Laura and O'Hara, when you see her from the front, she only has
one braid in front but its the opposite braid from what you see when it
shows her from the back
Contributed by HYPER, June 19, 1997.
- Additional: The
braid thing has bugged me for a long time! Doesn't anyone actually watch
the shows before they air them?
Contributed by Arnel S, February 13, 1998.
- O'Hara seems to be talking in a Scottish accent half the time as apposed
to his Irish heritage.

- The player piano in the saloon where Mr. Edwards and Johnny enter is

a jump of 30 years.
