FOUR EYES September 17, 1975
Mary's sight goes blurry and she has to get glasses. She
is teased by the children at school and called "Four Eyes." They
tell her that she looks just like Miss Beadle, meant as an insult, while
her parents tell her she looks just like Miss Beadle, meant as a compliment.
Mary, not wanting to look like Miss Beadle and become a spinstress and
live her life alone, decided to hide her glasses and be "normal."
She tells her parents she has lost them and her grades start to slip, but
the kids have stopped teasing her. Mary is fine with this arrangment until
she accidently sees Miss Beadle passionately kissing her beau. Realizing
that men can love women who are smart and wear glasses, Mary recovers her
glasses, admits to hiding them, and her grades improves. She now wants
to be just like Miss Beadle.
- Correct me if I am wrong, but is this the first
episode we findout that Miss Beadle also wears glasses? Kind of convient
that this whole episode revoles around Mary not wanting to be just like
Miss Beadle because she wears glasses.

HAUNTED HOUSE September 24, 1975
- When Laura goes with Pa to Mancado to look for Miss Lily, she goes
to an old theater and meets a man who tells her that Miss Lily is dead,
but as she is walking in, she passes a sign for a theater showing. The
sign said "Abandoned Daughters". If I remember correctly, isn't
that the show that Ma and Pa went to in "Ma's Holiday" back in
the 1st season which was at a different theater?

THE CAMPOUT October 8, 1975
- This is one of my favourite episodes: Mrs. Oleson trys so hard to be
friends, Laura and Nellie go for a river trip, Charles gets his own advice
put against himself ("you can get along with anyone if you try"),
and the cool "scratchy" music that plays for Miss Beadle.
- When Laura and Nellie return from their river ride, they come to meet
their parents coming out of a field quite a ways away from the river. Why?
If they had gone so far down the river, wouldn't they have gotten easily
lost trying to find their way back? Wouldn't it been better to walk along
the river when returning to camp so they won't get lost?
- I find it odd that no one but Mary recognizes the poison ivy that Willie
picks up. And then Mrs. Oleson and the others wonder why only SHE and WILLIE
get poison ivy. Could it possibly the "one of a kind LEAF" that
Willie got? Not even Miss Beadle recognized it when she was judging the
collections.
- Miss Beadle's defination of homework is funny. The episode starts with
her telling the class she wants them to enjoy their holiday and that she
won't be assigning ANY homework. The class appropiately claps and cheers.
THEN immediately following this she says she expects the class to finish
their leaf ASSIGNMENT. Where I come from, assignments I do away from school
(and over holidays) is called "Homework!"

- Mary is wearing a plastic
headband for most of this episode.

EBENEZER SPRAGUE November 19, 1975
- While riding home from the
fishing pond, Mr. Sprague relates a story to Laura about a time when he
rescued his boat. Laura and Mr. Sprague then part ways. At the dinner table
later, Laura knows a lot more detail about the incident than Mr. Sprague
told her.

AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW December 10, 1975
- Fools gold is very tiny and light and floats gently down in water.
Its also very hard to separate from sand. I know because as a child growing
up next to a river, my siblings and I tried the same thing. So how did
two small children collect such a huge pile of "pure fools gold"
in such a short time using a screen door. Any screen fine enough to trap
the "gold" would have trapped the sand also. Pam G.

THE GIFT December 17, 1975
- There is a scene in this episode where Mary and Laura are fishing and
discussing whether to tell Pa that they spent the Sunday School money on
medicine bottles instead of a Bible for the Reverend Alden. Pa comes along
and joins them and then Mary and Laura leave, but as they're walking away
they're wearing different clothes than they were wearing while they were
fishing.

THE TALKING MACHINE January 14, 1976
- This episode makes references to both the telephone and the phonograph
invented by Thomas Edison, and takes place in 1871. However, the telephone
was invented in 1876 and was not legally recognized until 1893, while the
phonograph was not invented till 1877. So where did this talking machine
come from?

THE PRIDE OF WALNUT GROVE January 28, 1976
- There is a scene where Mary and Laura leave school and then Laura runs
back to tell Miss Beadle the reason that Mary won't be in the competition.
Mary and Laura are wearing different clothes when they're walking home
than they had in town and then when Laura goes back to town she is wearing
the original dress she had when she left school.

A MATTER OF CIRCUMSTANCE February 4, 1976
Thanks to Jennifer Slegg for her episode title
correction.
- I have one complaint about this episode. I saw a "Bonanza"
episode last week in which Little Joe's leg was smashed by a horse. He
too was home alone, and his leg also got infected. I bet you can just guess
what he tried to do? That right, Little Joe was going to "cut it off"
too. This does not sound familiar does it?

TROUBLEMAKER February 25, 1976
- This is one of several episodes using tracked music from earlier episodes.
For example, the final sequence was tracked with music from "The
Camp-Out".

later returns to play Irv Hartwig in the "Sylvia" episodes? Just
curious.

FOR MY LADY March 10, 1976
- At the end of the show we hear Laura telling us how Ma believed special
dishes were for special people, not special occasions. And, she said, a
family all together is the "most special people" of all, so from
then on they only used that beautiful china. Of course, we never see that
china again.

CENTENNIAL March 17, 1976
- This episode, obviously, takes place in 1876. However, since the cast
members age a bit in the stories that are set in 1876 (according to the
LHOTP timeline),
this episode is no longer considered story canon (that is, part of the
overall flow of the series storyline).

SOLDIER'S RETURN March 24, 1976
- In this episode, they make
a point that it was 12 years since the civil war. However, in "Aftermath"
during season four, it was only 11 years.
